If you’re a true music fan than you know that Record Store Day is a time where you get out of the house and head down to the Record Store and buy something tangible. Hip-Hop collective, Jurassic 5 will contribute to Record Store Day with a re-release of their album Quality Control on 4 LPs this April 18th, 2015.
Did I mention that the LP re-release will include Deluxe “Wood Box” packaging? The packaging is best described in their press release as “a quadruple vinyl release housed in an outer wood box laser-etched with the iconic “J5″ logo on the front.” Split up among the 4 LPs will be 2 vocal and 2 instrumental paired with an in-depth 24-page booklet that includes rare photos courtesy of photographer B+, liner notes by author Brian Coleman, and input from all six members of the group. It doesn’t end there as each vinyl will be housed in a European-style jacket with never-before-seen artwork.
Available now is a two-song 7-inch, with “Quality Control” on side A and “Jurass Finish First” on side B. The 45 pressing is black vinyl, with a 7-inch sized artwork replication of the original “Quality Control” single jacket. You can pick this album up on Get On Down by clicking HERE!
Since 1998, Jurassic 5 has made their underground mark on the hip-hop scene with the release of their first EP, followed by their debut album in 2000 with Quality Control. Since then, the group would release 2 more albums until breaking up in 2007 following the release of Feedback.
In 2013, the group’s six original members, Akil, Zaakir, Marc 7, DJ Nu-Mark, Chali 2na, and Cut Chemist, reunited for Coachella, and then embarked on a yearlong string of sold-out concerts and festivals in Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Formed in 1994, the group kept momentum going into 2014 celebrating 20-Years with their Word of Mouth Reunion Tour that saw the group sharing the road and stage alongside Dialted Peoples, Beat Junkies and MC Supernatural.
J5’s Vocalist Chali 2na has collaborated on songs with Long Beach Dub All-stars, Slightly Stoopid with ties to the reggae-rock community using his vocals as a smooth bridge between reggae & hip hop. While there are no current plans for a new album, J5’s renaissance continues with the release of a full-length documentary feature later this year. Below, you’ll find their announced tour dates for Australia, US, Japan and Europe.
Fans that attend any of the group’s tour dates prior to Record Store Day, April 18, will be able to pre-order an autographed VIP edition of the box set, which they will see a sample of on-site.
