Kaleo Wassman has released “Shine Again,” a new song that also serves as his debut solo single.
As one of the most prolific voices in reggae rock, Wassman is best-known as the frontman of Pepper. The group has released 8 studio albums in a career spanning over 25 years and remains beloved by listeners across the globe.
As he breaks out as a solo act, Wassman retains the distinctive and emotive vocal delivery that has earned him a legion of dedicated fans. “Shine Again” finds the singer becoming introspective, ruminating on people’s ability to emerge from life’s struggles. Wassman sounds reflective yet upliftingly defiant as he declares in the chorus:
“Cuz we can still dance in the falling rain / Nothing ever stays the same / The sun will always shine again / And what goes up will come down / The world spins round and round / The sun will always shine again”
“I’ve had many releases in music over the last 20 years: Pepper, Sabotage Sound System, Naughty Don, as well as being featured on other artists’ songs,” Wassman explains to The Pier. “This will be the first time I have ever released any project of mine under my name that my parents gave me: Kaleo – which means the voice. I am honored to share this with all of you.”
Wassman has a pair of solo acoustic gigs coming up – July 26 in Dana Point, CA and July 31 in San Diego. Meanwhile Pepper will play the Reggae Rise Up Oregon and Mission Bayfest festivals, along with a run of dates in October with Rebelution.
