A year ago, Less Than Jake celebrated their 20th anniversary with two nights of performances in their hometown, Gainesville Rock City. After selling out both nights last year, the band decided to do it once more. This year, Less Than Jake fans really have something to look forward to, as the band will be performing for three straight nights at their 2nd annual Wake and Bake Weekend!
A new smaller music festival of sorts, planned for every Labor Day Weekend is Less Than Jake’s Wake and Bake Weekend. This year, the event will be held at Gainesville, Florida’s High Dive, featuring 3 nights of full headlining sets from Gainesville’s original Punk-Ska-Rock band LTJ, as well as two nights with Ballyhoo! as direct support.
Kicking off the event Friday night will be Pop-Punkers Houdini’s Liquor Cabinet. The opening night, billed as Paper and Plastik night, will also feature 2 bands from the Paper+Plastik label. Boca Raton’s Protagonist hits the stage after the local openers, followed by Red City Radio, who just completed a new record set to be released this fall.
Saturday will begin with Jacksonville’s Sidereal, a band that has been gaining momentum with the recent release of their debut album On the Rocks. Following Sidereal will be The Attack of Orlando, FL, a heavier punk band supported by The Supervillains’ Rah Rah Rah Records label.
Finally, Ballyhoo! will bring their catchy Alternative Reggae-Rock to the High Dive. Having just released their new album Pineapple Grenade, their first performance is sure to be explosive, as the Aberdeen outfit stirs up the crowd with their high energy set before LTJ claims the stage for the night. Rumor has it, that LTJ will play their album Anthem in its entirety on Saturday, for the 10th anniversary of the record!
Sunday the band and fans will have to nurse the hang over early as a bonus show has been added. At noon Less Than Jake will head across the street to Loosey’s for the Wake and Bake Brunch, a noon performance featuring an acoustic set from LTJ and an opening set from Red City Radio.
Sunday night is set to open with two local acts, Ska band, the Duppies, followed by Morning Fatty and their fusion of Funk and Reggae music. Ballyhoo! will perform one more set, and then Less Than Jake will take their hometown stage one more time.
Last year LTJ played 2 full sets of completely different tracks. This year the band is expected to do the same, and the weekend is expected to be even better as tons of cool activities are planned all weekend long including LTJ theme drink specials, football tailgate BBQ, and more! With just under a month till the 2nd annual Wake and Bake Weekend, tickets are going fast. Fans can order tickets online, here.
