Darenots’s New EP: ‘The Now Is Truth’ & song “Focus to Faded” Background:
If you haven’t heard of the Darenots yet, it’s because they’re a brand new group that is doing something unique with electro-hip hop with shades of pop and reggae. On May 27th, they’ll release their debut EP The Now Is Truth.
They’re the first since Ballyhoo! in 2011 to be a group not named Pepper to release music under the label of Law Records. If you didn’t know, Law Records is owned by Pepper, and in discussing Darenots, drummer Yesod Williams told The Pier: “The Darenots were started by a good friend Swav Pior that is also the drummer for IllScarlet, whom we’ve known for years, so once Swav showed us his new project it was obvious that the next coming of LAW records was upon us.”
The EP, The Now Is Truth, is 7 total songs with one of the tracks featuring guest vocals by Pepper’s guitarist/vocalist Kaleo Wassman. Track 2, “Focus to Faded,” is one of the more reggae heavy tracks on the EP. This is the one you’re getting for FREE download (so long as you download it on the homepage before May 21st, 2016).
In discussing the song “Focus to Faded” Swav explained the song to The Pier: ‘No need to name names, but the song was inspired by a past experience with a hot little party mess. Lots of ups, or better defined as, highs surpassed by even more lows.’ Jimmy goes on to explain that: “The song reflects that of the crazy girls we always seem to be attracted to.
