As fans, we love it when the artists give us the background behind the song. What its about, the meaning or the influence etc. This week is no exception and HB Surround Sound’s Guitarist/Vocalist Matt Denne, pulled the curtain back on what “Rock And Roll” is all about..
“Rock and Roll is a song about where I am in my life and my love of rock music because of the effect it has had on me. I know if I never picked up a guitar and fell in love with bands like Operation Ivy and Green Day I would not have the friends I have today and my best friends are like minded music lovers who just happen to be in my band.
Music has brought so many great things into my life but to try to make it in this business is not for the weak willed. When we were kids playing music in our first punk bands we thought we were going to conquer the world, we were sure success was right around the corner all we had to do was just write a couple hits and we would be doing this for the rest of our lives.
Haha ..17 years later you realize how naive we all were. That having been said, through all the ups and downs my passion for writing and performing good music is as strong as ever. There is no better feeling than getting on stage in front of a crowded room, leaving stresses of life behind and sweating through an electric set of heart pounding rock songs. “Next stop your stereo, READY, SET, GO!!”

The song, as well as the Explode EP was recorded with the ever popular Lew Richards at 17th Street Studios in Costa Mesa, CA. The EP is available on iTunes and for 3 songs, you only pay $2.97. Songs that include “Top of the World”, “Rock And Roll” and “Give You Away”.
HB Surround Sound Bio/Background:
Straight out of Huntington Beach, CA, HB Surround Sound are no strangers to the music scene. Having formed in the late 90s and putting out 3 albums before taking time off in 2006, HB Surround Sound was known for originally blending Punk Rock, Metal & Reggae. They were responsible in the early 2000s for introducing Dirty Heads by giving Duddy B (Dustin Bushnell) & Dirty J (Jared Watson) a platform to showcase their talent at live shows.
Over the years, the group has progressed into an original healthy blend of Ska, Reggae, Rock in the vain of Operation Ivy, Rancid & The Specials. Now their return to the stage after a few years off includes the May 2011 EP release of Back to Reality, as well as the early 2012 release of their new and latest EP EXPLODE.
HB Surround Sound On Tour…
HB Surround Sound is excited to announce that they have been added to select dates on the upcoming summer tour featuring Sublime With Rome, Pepper and Cypress Hill. Lucky fans will get to see HBSS on the first leg of the SWR/Cypress Hill/Pepper summer tour as HBSS will be on most of the dates from July 11th to July 28th.
Jake B of HB Surround Sound, displayed nothing but excitement saying “The boys and I are beyond stoked to be added to this Tour. We have maximum respect for all 3 bands and look to learn a lot about touring and playing from these true veterans. We are completely humbled by this opportunity and are ready to make some new friends, new fans and of course, rock our asses off!”
In addition, they have also been added to the west coast summer dates of the Matisyahu & Dirty Heads tour just before summer ends this September.
