Straight out of Tempe, AZ, Katastro is set to celebrate the release of their new album Gentle Predator on Tuesday, Oct 11th. As a tease of what to expect, Katastro gave The Pier a song off their new album for FREE download titled “Move Like Creatures”… Come by here EVERY Sunday for a NEW MP3 Leak of the Week that runs from Sunday to Saturday.
Katastro went to work locally in Phoenix at Novel Motion Recording Studio and took their talents to the Golden State to record at The Den Recorders in Pasadena, CA. The new album Gentle Predator has 7 new songs steadily mixing hip-hop, blues, jazz, rock, and just the right spice of reggae.
Here’s what Katastro had to say about the song “Move Like Creatures”…
“The meaning in the lyrics of, “Move Like Creatures” are meant to be interpreted by the listener, like a lot of other songs we have written in the past. This song in particular depicts a person struggling in an unpleasant relationship or situation with another person, or substance, and keeps reliving it rather than cutting it out of their life completely because of the fear of being left alone and having nothing. “I’m her sin, and she’s my queen, we can’t leave it alone.”
Emerging from diverse musical backgrounds, the members of Katastro gather to create a unique sound, blending hip hop, blues, jazz, and rock. Formed in 2007 by vocalist Andy Chaves, drummer Andrew Stravers and guitarist Tanner Riccio, later joined by bassist Ryan Weddle, Katastro has been gaining a lot of exposure while impressing their peers at the same time. Opening for national acts such as the 311, Dirty Heads, New Politics, Method Man, Redman, Ghostface Killah, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, and Passafire, they continue to pull in their audience with their intriguing and entertaining live show.
The bands first release in 2007 was a 6 song E.P. entitled “The Wonderful Daze”. In 2008 Katastro released their EP entitled “The Facts”. Followed by “Poking Holes In A Pattern” produced by Bob Hoag, which was released in late 2009. Their most anticipated project to date entitled, “Gentle Predator” will be released and distributed online through INgrooves on Oct 11, 2011, which was recorded at The Den Recorders in Pasadena, California.
Katastro has gone on several national tours with such acts as Tomorrows Bad Seeds, Passafire, The B Foundation, and H.R. (from Bad Brains)
