Background on new song “I’m Sorry (but it’s over)”:

As is the case with most MP3 Leaks, we love to hear the artists perspective on the song, along with the background on the track to fully understand and grasp the meaning of the song. Here’s what James Alger of One Drop had to say in regards to the song “I’m Sorry (but it’s over)”. Enjoy the background while you listen to the new song…

“The song is about a relationship coming to an end. Though there were good memories and exciting times in the past, the passion is now gone, and it’s just no longer rewarding to stay together. It’s a difficult yet necessary decision as expressed in the chorus ‘I’m sorry but it’s over, it’s better to end it this way before we drag this any further and only delay the pain’.

I wrote the song a few years ago when I was going through the experience. There is more to the story, but perhaps that’s for other material (laughs James). I’d play it at home every now and then but for the most part the song remained dormant until now.

We collectively began arranging parts in early 2012 and without direct intention this underlying 50’s vibe continued to surface, so we just embraced it, particularly with Brian’s guitar tones and Ivan’s melodic bass line. Like most of our songs we went with a traditional One Drop (rim shot) beat and added some rich vocal harmonies around my attempt at a singing with an oldies style cadence. To fill in some space, Alex adding these cool conversational piano parts and some nice string pads underneath it all.

The song was co-produced by Jeff Forrest (Buck-O-Nine, Blink 182) and recorded at Peaks and Valleys Studio (San Diego, CA) with vocals and overdubs recorded at Doubletime Studio (San Diego, CA) and Four Track Mind Studio (San Diego, CA)”

“I’m Sorry (but it’s over)” LYRICS:
“I know and you know that it’s time to let go
I got a pain in my body and it’s burning all the way to the bone
Something doesn’t feel right it makes me want to run in hide
I can only apologize I never wanted to make you cry
I wanted everything that you weren’t giving me
But now I got to set you free here at the end of the road

I know this is hard to say goodbye
I wish there was an easy way to do this girl
But things have changed we’ve done grown apart
And I can’t keep pretending anymore
Yes we’ve had our good times and our love was to the core
But now that has run dry and our time has took its course

    I’m sorry but it’s over
It’s better to end it this way
Before we drag this any further
And only delay the pain with you

This ain’t easy for me to just let you go
    After all we’ve been through
‘Cause the thought of you with someone else makes me want to hold onto you
But it’s just jealousy in disguise when we’ve reached the end
But I know with time we’ll both move on and learned to love again

    I’m sorry but it’s over
It’s better to end it this way
Before we drag this any further
And only delay the pain with you

And if you see me passing by
We both got to swallow our pride
God knows that we gave it a try
But we can’t force what ain’t right
And I promise you the same
I don’t want to cause you more pain
No need to point or to blame
‘Cause it’s too late for any change
Some things aren’t meant to be everlasting
And I guess we reached that point when were unhappy
Just know my love was true when I had you
And I gave you all of my heart until it was through

    I’m sorry but it’s over
It’s better to end it this way
Before we drag this any further
And only delay the pain with you”

    One Drop Bio/Background:
One Drop from San Diego, California embraces the spirit of classic Roots Reggae and Dub music with a calculated blend of R&B, Pop and Rock subtleties. Inspired by artists like Steel Pulse, Gregory Isaacs and The Police. One Drop’s music is infectious and well received by a wide range of age and cultural demographics. Critics describe their sound as genuine and captivating, filled with melodic choruses, refreshing vintage guitar/organ tones all cleverly layered over seductive bass lines. The voice of One Drop is soulfully delivered with brutally honest lyrics rooted from true-life experiences of love, growing up in a dysfunctional home and social & political taboos.
