Chronixx, Jamaica’s rising reggae artist, continues his momentum as he collaborates on a song with the Bad Boys of Reggae, Inner Circle featuring the late legend, Jacob Miller. In addition, he has announced his West Coast tour dates…
Born Jamar Rolando McNaughton, Chronixx is only 22 years-old and is already making quite the name for himself through the reggae ranks. His father was an artist who went by the name Chronicle and young Chronixx was influenced early, growing up around the likes of Buju Banton, Norris Man and Gregory Isaacs. Chronixx released his first EP titled Hooked on Chronixx in 2010 and his debut album, The Dread & Terrible Project in April 2014. In July of 2014, he was featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Now, Chronixx has teamed up with the Bad Boys of Reggae & legends in Inner Circle. Inner Circle has revisited an old riddim with “Tenement Yard” featuring the late, great Jacob Miller. Forty years after it’s original release, a young Chronixx has jumped in on the song and “delivers his message, with what amounts to a whole new song subtitled ‘News Carrying Dread.'”
When I asked Inner Circle about Chronixx they said: “We heard about Chronixx in Jamaica, and we liked his Vibes, so we asked Legendary producer Don Corleon to reach out to him and he made it happen. It was great working with him! Cool as a Cucumber!” They recorded at Inner Circle’s own Circle Village Studios in Miami, FL.
The song will eventually be on an Inner Circle album, but for now it’s just a single. To accompany the single, they have shot a music video for the song in the Wynwood district of Miami, FL; made to resemble a Jamaica ghetto (The term Tenement Yard, in Jamaica, is another phrase for the ghetto). The video was directed by Gil Green & Damian Fyffe and you can view a behind-the-scenes documentation of the forthcoming official music video below in addition to the single itself.
