Based out of San Diego, CA is a group that goes by the name Boostive & they’ve been making a bit of noise with their twist of hip-hop, jazz, soul and reggae. They just released 2 new singles “Sun” and “Another Day” and made them both tangible with a 7″ Vinyl courtesy of a new Southern, CA label called All Town Sound.
The core of Boostive is 3 childhood friends who have been playing music together for over 15 years. The band has been operating for about 10 years & the new crew of musicians have been around the last 4 years. The live band is Seiji Komo on bass/guitar, Nathan Kocivar on sax/keys, Dylan Webber on guitar, Divina Jasso on vocals, Malachi Johnson on drums, Mitchum Yacoub on percussion, Wesley Etienne on trombone/trumpet, and lastly, Al Bundi the emcee.
The vinyl record is aptly titled Boostive Meets All Town Sound where the 2 songs were recorded and mixed in the bands home studio Casa Tortuga in Ocean Beach, CA by their producer, musical director and multi instrumentalist Seiji Komo. Some additional mixing was done by Tim Felten of Sure Fire Soul Ensemble and is also a head at the All Town Sound label. It was all mastered by JJ Golden.
So while the band is signed to Stoopid Records, All Town Sound is a separate independent San Diego label formed by the bands conga player Mitchum Yacoub. The label does all vinyl releases and they plan to do more work with them in the future.
The band just wrapped their first national tour opening up for Thievery Corporation as the group plans to trickle out some new singles over the next year along with some planned guest appearances, including Racquel Jones of Thievery Corporation. Coming up the group will be opening up for Iration & Tribal Seeds when they perform at San Diego’s Bayfest on July 9th.
