This last Tuesday, Nashville, Tennessee saw a show that was out of the normal “bro country” or pop music scene that the city is used to seeing in its intimate venues. California-based surf rock/alternative trio Sitting on Stacy rocked out The End with alternative-rock artist and son of late Sublime frontman, Bradley Nowell, Jakob Nowell opening up the show with a bang. The End is a classic staple venue in Nashville due to its intimacy and ability for fans to engage with the performer on stage. With this show being both Nowell and Sitting on Stacey’s first time performing in Nashville, I knew this was going to be an unforgettable show.
Jakob Nowell was full of energy throughout his set and made the audience feel like we were all family. Nowell has a powerful voice and knows how to engage with the audience very well. His set included classic tracks and covered the likes of Rock Master Scott & the Dynamic Three, Johnny Cash, and Sublime. His new band name, Jakob’s Castle, consists of himself and a revolving door of supporting musicians, with this tour’s drummer being Darryl Brown. Another great thing about Jakob Nowell is that after his set, he was walking around the venue, hanging out with fans, and supporting Sitting on Stacy’s set, even coming on stage to cover “Badfish” by Sublime with them. His set is my favorite opening act that I have seen this year, and I am looking forward to seeing Nowell continue to tour in the future.
When Sitting on Stacy hit the stage, there was not a single person sitting down. The band consists of members Hoyt Yeatman (lead vocals/guitar), Kyle Hart (bass/vocals) and Trevor Smith (drums), and they did not disappoint. They performed some of their classic tracks such as “I Can’t F**k”, “This Summer’s Day”, “Feel It”, and their latest single “Some Kind Of Way”, and had the fans singing along the entire time. As someone who did not know their music before this show, I am now a fan just due to their stellar stage presence and overall ability to entice a crowd, along with their great music. This is a show I highly recommend if you have a chance to see it.
