Australian musician, Mat McHugh, known for his work with The Beautiful Girls during the better part of the 2000’s, has cultivated his solo career over the past few years. Now, McHugh is in the midst of recording his next project, partnering with Pledgemusic for a 2-disc independent release under the name of The Beautiful Girls.
It has been four years since Mat Mchugh has released music under the moniker, The Beautiful Girls. After releasing a string of solo projects, Mat McHugh is planning to release a new album by The Beautiful Girls titled Dancehall Days.
Set to release on October 3rd, McHugh is still in the process of composing lyrics & has not yet solidified a track-list. As in all his past records, McHugh pieces together the music himself, teaming up with his good friend and long-time co-producer & TBG co-founder, Ian Pritchett.
McHugh has said: “The album will be an evolution of all the styles the collective has been working on together for the last decade.” McHugh also listed Hip-Hop duo, Eric B & Rakim and Jamaican Reggae production duo, Steely & Clevie, as strong influences on Dancehall Days.
Producing the record independently, McHugh is utilizing a crowd sourcing campaign to help fund the new record as well as to raise money for a charitable organization. McHugh will be donating 15% of everything raised over the goal from the Pledge campaign to Waves For Water; A firm with a mission to get clean water to every single person who needs it.
Through Pledgemusic, Mat McHugh and The Beautiful Girls fans have the opportunity to support the release through the purchase of special and rare merchandise. In addition to album poster and clothing packages, a limited see-through color vinyl, individually numbered and signed, is available on the site. This vinyl won’t be pressed again after the Pledge Campaign concludes; it will be the only TBG vinyl pressed.
In addition to recording brand new tracks, Mat McHugh & Evil E have been working together to package a bonus album of SoundSystem remixes of a handful of their favorite TBG tracks. These are the versions McHugh has been playing, live, which received lot of requests to be recorded.
In his very informative Plegemusic Page, McHugh explains it all, giving fans the honest truth behind why The Beautiful Girls marketed a tour as the Last Tour Ever, why he decided to continue performing as a solo act, and why the two acts are really one in the same.
