The Movement have dropped their new album called Visions, a dynamic and engrossing listen that features some of the South Carolina group’s strongest material.
With such vaunted guest artists as Stick Figure, 311 frontman Nick Hexum, The Elovaters and Tribal Seeds, it’d be easy to get caught up in Visions’ star power. Still it’s the depth of the songwriting that shines through strongest, showing that The Movement continue to evolve and push themselves musically, even more than 20 years into the career.
Highlights are abundant: “Live it Up” is a vibey summertime anthem; “This Is Your Llife” is a base-heavy, introspective track, laced with hip-hop influences; Lead single “Nice & Slow” (featuring the aforementioned Elovaters) is a breezy, reflective tune, inviting listeners to step back and appreciate all the joy life has to offer.
Then there’s this writer’s personal favorite, “Hand Grenade.” The pensive, soulful track begins quietly, before delivering a wave of sound as explosive as its name. It all amounts to a well-rounded and thoroughly enjoyable listen from one of reggae-rock’s most consistent acts.
The Movement are currently on a co-headlining tour with Tribal Seeds, and will follow that up with the headlining Visions Tour in November.
