Viren Neel and Claire Wright release new single, “Dearest Madeleine (Dry Season Rhythm)”

On “Dearest Madeleine (Dry Season Rhythm),” Trinidad-born singer, songwriter, and composer Viren Neel continues shaping a sonic world where introspection meets Caribbean warmth. Known for weaving philosophical lyricism through a retro-leaning palette of soul, folk, pop, alt-rock, and island fusion, Neel has become one of Trinidad and the wider region’s most quietly compelling emerging artists. His 2020 debut single “Change,” which reached No. 5 on Apple Music Trinidad, marked him early as both a vocalist with striking tonal clarity and a songwriter committed to emotional precision over passing trends.

For the third single off his upcoming EP Five River Rock (out December 19 via Ineffable Records), Neel teams up with California singer Claire Wright, whose breezy vocal presence fits seamlessly into the track’s Dry Season–inspired landscape. Together, they craft a duet that feels both intimate and panoramic: a letter written in melody, anchored by island rhythm but stretched by Neel’s signature folk-soul sensibility.

“Dearest Madeleine” lives in the subtle places—steady percussion, warm low-end movement, and a buoyant but unhurried groove. Neel’s lyrical storytelling leans toward the reflective, framing the song as something between a confession and a poetic offering. Wright’s harmonies fold in like sunlight, softening the edges without diluting the track’s emotional weight.

Part of what has drawn admiration from respected Caribbean figures such as Kes, Shenseea, and producer Rvssian is Neel’s commitment to craft: an artist’s artist who balances classic songwriting structure with region-specific texture. “Dearest Madeleine” is another step in that direction—a piece of contemporary Caribbean fusion that stays true to tradition while pulling gently toward universal themes of longing, memory, and connection.
