After unprecedented success and growth during the first three years, the California Roots Music & Arts Festival has now grown to three full days. And, with the early bird lineup and ticket prices announced, this year appears to be the biggest festival yet!
In past years, the star-studded lineup included the likes of the Dirty Heads in the festival’s inaugural year, as well as, Tribal Seeds, Rebelution, Iration, and reggae-rock juggernauts Pepper, SOJA, The Expendables, J Boog and even The Green performing last year.
Already, the “Super Early Bird” lineup released appears to be outweighing all three previous years combined! After all, the first name listed for the 4th annual California Roots Music & Arts Festival is more than an attention grabber! The lineup features bands from all across the country, including some international artists, and reggae legends, from the island of Jamaica.
This year’s lineup features headlining act, Slightly Stoopid, following their recent release of Top of the World on August 14th! Slightly Stoopid might be the biggest band to be featured on any of the three Cali Roots stages, ever! Along with the Ocean Beach, California jam band, the Dirty Heads will be returning to the Monterey County Fairgrounds after their summertime release of Cabin By The Sea, and will be making their second appearance at Cali Roots.
On a side note, both Slightly Stoopid and the Dirty Heads have not shared the same stage or lineup since the West Beach Music Festival in Santa Barbara, CA back in 2009. With the Cali Roots festival growing to three full days this coming year, it will be interesting to see where both these bands are slotted for set times, and on which days.
Other notable bands and artists performing at the 4th annual festival in Monterey, CA are Don Carlos, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, Ballyhoo!, Natural Vibrations, Seedless, Fortunate Youth, Through The Roots, Pacific Dub, High Tide, Fear Nuttin Band, Arden Park Roots, Stranger and Mystic Roots.
There have been rumors that a heavy Jamaican roots-reggae presence would be in store for this upcoming year, and certainly Don Carlos fills that void. However, there will be more names from this area of the world, including the possibility of witnessing one of Bob Marley’s sons performing live and direct from Monterey Bay!
With this early lineup announced and plenty more bands to be revealed later, be sure to jump on the ticket specials early! These tickets will not last very long!
The dates for the 4th annual California Roots Music & Arts Festival will be May 24-26, 2013 at Monterey County Fairgrounds in Monterey, CA. The Pier can’t wait to see you there!
