As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, New Englanders eagerly await Outermost Roots and Blues Festival in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, set to take place on October 12 and 13 in Orleans at Nauset Beach. Among the many talented artists performing at this unique festival is Isaac Sinclair Teel, the dynamic drummer of the band TAUK. We caught up with Isaac to discuss their latest single, “Lil Mama,” and what fans can expect from the festival.
A New Sound: “Lil Mama”
TAUK recently released their latest single, “Lil Mama,” featuring Kanika Moore and Shady Horns from Lettuce. “It’s a feel-good song,” Isaac shared. “I actually was just cleaning my bathroom while listening to it, and it made me get up and start dancing a little bit with a sponge in one hand and some cleaning spray in another.”
The song explores the journey of a young girl as she discovers herself, embodying a relatable sentiment of wanting to be grown and free. “It captures the feeling of wanting to be outside even when she’s too young to be out there,” he explained.
Preparing for Outermost Roots and Blues Festival
Outermost Roots and Blues Festival promises an eclectic mix of genres, and Isaac is excited to be part of it. “We had the opportunity to make some music with G. Love earlier in the year and kind of just gelled,” he said, highlighting the natural connection between their music and the festival atmosphere.
“It speaks to our ability to switch in and out of scenes, in and out of genres pretty seamlessly.”
The lineup for the festival features a diverse array of artists, including Slightly Stoopid and Donavan Frankenreiter. Isaac expressed his enthusiasm for sharing the stage with such talent, noting, “It’s like cool name after cool name after cool person after cool artist. So we’re pumped to be a part of that.”
The Festival Experience
With the festival set against the picturesque backdrop of Cape Cod’s sandy shores, Isaac shared his excitement for the unique setting.
“I mean, as a festival-goer and a person who has played at festivals, when you have to put on clunky boots and double socks, it’s not as fun when you could just be barefoot in the sand,” he remarked.
When it comes to festival dynamics, Isaac strikes a balance between mingling and enjoying some downtime. “I’m a people person. I don’t mind going out and talking to people, especially if it’s a festival where I have a bunch of musician homies at,” he explained. “However, I also enjoy staying at the hotel until it’s time to perform. It’s all about balance!”
Looking Ahead
As TAUK prepares for their performance at the Outermost Roots and Blues Festival, Isaac reflects on the journey that brought him to this point. Having been with the band for over a decade, he appreciates the strong camaraderie among the members. “When you’re with people who are kindred and like-minded, it makes the work and the music a lot easier,” he said.
With “Lil Mama” now out and the festival on the horizon, fans can look forward to a lively performance that captures the spirit of connection, joy, and musical exploration that TAUK embodies. As Isaac said,
“The goal every day on tour is to be an instrument of love through music.”
