Out of Brooklyn, NY comes, New Kingston, who started off the new year with a new album titled Kingston City via Easy Star Records. Moving into September, New Kingston has announced a new tour and premiered a new music video.
New Kingston formed in 2006 in the basement of their Brooklyn home, when brothers Tahir (keys), Courtney Jr. (drums) & Stephen (guitar) began covering music by the likes of Bob Marley, Earth Wind & Fire, Dennis Brown, Michael Jackson, The Whispers and many more. The three brothers, under the watchful eye of their father (and bassist) Courtney ‘Faddah P’ Panton Sr., called themselves New Kingston to appropriately reflect a combination of their Jamaican heritage and their present lives in progressive New York City.
This family affair will take their show on the road this fall starting September 24th in Providence, RI and concluding November 14th in Boston, MA. In all, New Kingston will tour across 20 states and more than 30 cities from east to west coast and back including California Roots: The Carolina Sessions and Reggae By The River festivals in October.
They’re titling this the Protect Me Tour as they celebrate the latest single of the same name. The single, features a guest appearance by legends The Wailing Souls.
Stephen explains that: “The song is about protecting yourself from the different entities that take you away from your path and staying strong. It’s asking for protection from a higher force. Tahir’s verse states ‘They try and clip our branches, but can’t kill our roots,’ and this is exactly the statement we want our single and tour to promote.”

Their latest record, reaching #1 on the Billboard Reggae charts, is Kingston City. The record includes 12 total songs with guest appearances by members of Tribal Seeds, Hawaiian singer-songwriter Kimie Miner, Sister Carol, The Wailing Souls, and the late, great reggae legend Sugar Minott.
The Pier caught up with New Kingston back in March and as our own Blake Taylor wrote back then, Faddah P worked long and late hours to support his boys when they were very young. He recollected, “One day I came home early for some reason and they were sitting out front” heads down with boredom. He took them into the house, put instruments in their hands, and that is where their musical journey started.

Faddah P served as a guide while Courtney Jr., Stephen, and Tahir practiced with various instruments. Having different tastes in music allowed them to bring something different to the table while they enhanced their skills.“Their music comes from each of their individual experiences,” explained Faddah P. “They come from playing Top 40 stuff and there’s a lot of fusion in their experience.”
