Aurorawave Drops Reggaecore Anthem ‘Suffocate’ Featuring Jamaica’s Kumar Fyah

Buried beneath a lurching groove that blends dub-steeped basslines with jagged metal riffs, Aurorawave’s new single “Suffocate” featuring Jamaica’s Kumar Fyah is a stupefying collision of sonic worlds—held together by gravitas and tension.

From the moment the track kicks in, thunderous drums and looping guitar create a claustrophobic atmosphere that lives up to the song’s title. Kumar Fyah’s vocals emerge like a lifeline: soulful, gritty, and etched with emotional wear. His Jamaican drawl weaves through the tempest, adding unexpected warmth to passages that could otherwise feel relentless. On the chorus—“I’m suffocating, searching for air”—his voice cracks, transforming a heavy rock anthem into an intimate confession.

Aurorawave have properly staked their claim in the emergent “reggaecore” scene, fusing reggae’s rhythmic roots with the raw horsepower of alternative metal. Now, bolstered by a luminary like Kumar Fyah, they’ve refined their aesthetic: the result is heavy but rooted, abrasive yet soulful.

Aurorawave kicks off their Phase II Tour with DoneFor & Droogs AG June 17th, 2026 in Atlanta, GA. They’ll also be part of Mission Bayfest, taking place in San Diego this October.
