Sublime Returns, Lenny Kravitz Reigns, and SoCal Surf Culture Shines On at BeachLife 2025

BeachLife isn’t just a festival— it’s a lifestyle rooted in the rhythm of the ocean and the soul of surf culture.

Held in the heart of Redondo Beach, the festival brings together a diverse lineup of artists who live and breathe the coastal life. From punk to reggae, rock to Americana, every act taps into the free-spirited energy that defines Southern California.

This year’s lineup is stacked with legends and surf-scene staples, artists like The Beach Boys, Long Beach Dub Allstars, and Tomorrows Bad Seeds, bring the southern California sound that have been deemed the soundtracks of surfers and skaters alike. Donavon Frankenreiter, a former pro surfer turned mellow acoustic rock troubadour, delivers sun-soaked vibes and heartfelt melodies straight from the shoreline. Jesse James Pariah, another pro surfer-musician hybrid, brings a gritty, soulful edge to the stage, blending surf roots with modern rock. And of course, Lenny Kravitz brings his charismatic rock style to the beach, proving that the influence of surf culture stretches far beyond the sand.

Among the other artists, Sublime stands out as a band whose DNA is inseparable from Southern California’s surf, skate, and street scenes. Formed in Long Beach in the late ’80s, Sublime’s fusion of punk, ska, reggae, and hip hop captured the essence of a laid-back, wave-chasing lifestyle. Bandmates Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh started their musical journey as childhood friends, eventually teaming up with vocalist/guitarist Bradley Nowell to create a sound that became the heartbeat of the beach community.

Their debut album 40 Oz. to Freedom turned underground anthems like “Badfish” and “Date Rape” into defining tracks for a generation. Though the band’s journey was cut short by Nowell’s tragic death in 1996, their music only grew in impact. Now, with Jakob Nowell—Bradley’s son—fronting the band, Sublime returns to the stage with a renewed spirit. It’s not just a tribute; it’s a continuation of the vibe they started decades ago.

At BeachLife, it’s not about one band or one genre—it’s about the collective sound of the coast. Whether it’s the rebellious energy of punk-rock, the smooth surf-soul of Donavon Frankenreiter and Jesse James Pariah, the timeless rock of Lenny Kravitz, or the iconic rhythms of Sublime, every artist shares a connection to the sea and the culture it inspires. Together, they create a soundtrack for the sand, the surf, and the community that lives for it.
