Claire Wright continues to expand the collaborative world surrounding her music with “Last Sunset,” a new single featuring Moon Taxi and Coyote Island released August 21 through Ineffable Records.
The three-way collaboration brings together artists who approach genre from different directions but share a similar resistance to remaining inside one musical lane.
Raised in Northern California, Wright later spent years working as a full-time songwriter in Southern California and Nashville. Her music carries traces of both environments, pairing the storytelling instincts associated with folk and country music with reggae-informed rhythms, laid-back pop and the warmer California sound that has followed her throughout her catalog. Wright herself cites influences ranging from Jack Johnson to Dirty Heads.
Moon Taxi have spent more than two decades crossing the lines between alternative rock, pop, roots music and the improvisational community that helped establish the Nashville band in its early years. Coyote Island approaches a similarly broad musical vocabulary from a more psychedelic and folk-oriented direction.
With Wright at the center, the combination feels less like three unrelated names being placed on one song and more like an extension of the collaborative approach she has already been developing.
That was especially evident on her 2025 album Holding on Tight.
The 12-song record featured The Hip Abduction on its title track, Anuhea on “Enough,” The Elovaters on “If You Wanna Roll” and Micah Brown on “It’s Ok to Be Happy.” Rather than functioning as isolated guest spots, those collaborations helped establish an album built around Wright’s ability to move naturally between singer-songwriter music and the broader American reggae community.
Her songwriting tends to favor direct language and everyday emotional situations rather than abstraction. That quality helps explain why artists coming from several different musical backgrounds can appear alongside her without changing the fundamental character of the music.
According to Ineffable, the track brings Wright together with Moon Taxi and Coyote Island around a warm, uplifting arrangement and soulful melodic approach. The official digital release credits all three as primary artists and lists the single through Ineffable Records.
The release also includes “Long Live Love,” Wright’s earlier 2026 single, giving the new collaboration a direct connection to the music she has been releasing since Holding on Tight.
That distinction matters because Wright’s music has increasingly found an audience in spaces where reggae, acoustic pop, singer-songwriter music and independent rock overlap. The genre boundaries matter less than the shared emphasis on melody, live instrumentation and songwriting.
After using Holding on Tight to bring together collaborators including The Hip Abduction, Anuhea and The Elovaters, Wright could easily have repeated the same formula. “Last Sunset” instead widens the circle.
It gives her another bridge between the reggae community that has embraced her recent music and the indie, folk and alternative influences that have been present all along.
