One of music’s greatest attributes is its ability to reflect various aspects of the human experience. There are songs made for partying, songs made for rebelling, songs made for romance, songs made for war. And then there are songs like “My Mood” by upstart reggae rockers FeelFree, which allow listeners to step back, recalibrate and appreciate all the good in this world.
Formed in Alexandria, Virginia by a group of middle school friends, FeelFree has gradually earned a name for themselves thanks to honest, welcoming tunes that invite fans to embrace the vibe. Their latest single “My Mood” is a welcomed addition to their catalog, and the perfect track to relax with on a warm summer’s night.
Unlike daily life – when most of us feel stressed and constantly in a hurry – “My Mood” rolls along at a leisurely pace. Nothing here is rushed. Instead, FeelFree are happy to let the track effortlessly unwind as it captivates its listeners.
A smooth rhythm and magnetic horn parts provide the backbone to “My Mood,” while its lyrics express a sense of optimism and appreciation. Nothing is going to stop Feel Free from cherishing the moment, and the band’s enthusiasm for all life has to offer is palpable on the chorus:
“I’m alright, so long as this music keeps on playing / While I’m cruising with my baby, keeping the blues away / I’m all good, making this music with my best friends / It’s truly such a blessing, when there ain’t no second guessing my mood”
A guest appearance by singer-songwriter Jade Tremba adds another layer to the tune, her soft vocals providing a dose of feminine charm. The result is a breezy, carefree track with universal appeal. Listen to “My Mood” below.
FeelFree will spend the latter part of summer performing around their home state. The band also has a pair of festival dates on their schedule – August 23 at the Wilderness Run Reggae Fest and September 7 at the Honeybee Hemp Fest.
