In January 2013 Freddie McGregor released the album Di Captain on VP records, which has since seen considerable success. McGregor is now in his late 50’s and has taken to the road again to support his latest album.
The Captain of the Ship Tour kicked off last Thursday in Raleigh, NC and will hit 10 cities on the east coast in just over two weeks. Performing on the tour with him, will be McGregor’s son, rising dancehall-reggae star Chino McGregor.
McGregor has gained international success and has become known as one of the true soulful voices of reggae. In his many years as an artist he has been able to incorporate ska, rocksteady, dancehall, dub and reggae. He has worked with legendary Jamaican reggae producers like Niney the Observer, Coxsone Dodd, and Linval Thompson and at the end of the 1980s decided to establish his own recording studio and record label, Big Ship.
