Iration guitarist and vocalist Micah Brown has put his own distinctive spin on No Use for a Name’s “International You Day.”
Originally released on the punk group’s 2002 album Hard Rock Bottom, “International You Day” has become something of an underground classic. It’s No Use for a Name’s most streamed song on Spotify, and has remained a beloved tune among the band’s dedicated fan base.
With his cover, Brown turns the song from a frantic punk track into an emotive, acoustic jam. The rendition allows the lyrics for “International You Day” to shine through, highlighting the depth of songwriting by No Use for a Name’s late frontman, Tony Sly.
“Tony Sly is one of my favorite songwriters of all time, even since I was in junior high or high school” Brown explained during a conversation with Pepper’s Yesod Williams. Describing “International You Day” as a “beautiful song,” Brown added that it’s “a song that as a songwriter you wish you wrote.”
