J.Lately has linked with Travis Thompson for a new single, “Bad on My Own,” a sharp and playful hip-hop track that closes out the rollout for Lately’s upcoming album Room to Grown, due July 10 via Ineffable Records.
The song brings together two West Coast-connected voices with distinct styles. J.Lately, a Bay Area emcee known for his laid-back delivery and independent grind, meets Seattle-based rapper Travis Thompson, whose charisma and conversational flow have helped him build a strong lane of his own. Together, they turn “Bad on My Own” into an anthem about protecting your peace, setting boundaries and only making room for people who genuinely add something to your life.
Rather than leaning heavy-handed, the track keeps its message light on its feet. “Bad on My Own” balances humor, confidence and self-awareness, giving the single a loose, easygoing feel while still landing with a clear point.
