98ROCK will kick off the 98ROCKFEST weekend with 98ROCKFEST Eve on Thursday, March 19, a special one-night-only event at downtown Clearwater’s Nancy and David Bilheimer Capitol Theatre featuring Jakobs Castle with Jakob Nowell and Return to Dust, along with a surprise performance by an unannounced artist, revealed exclusively to fans inside the venue.
98ROCKFEST Eve sets the stage for 98ROCKFEST, which returns the following night at Clearwater’s The BayCare Sound. The 98ROCKFEST lineup includes Three Days Grace, I Prevail, Sleep Theory, The Funeral Portrait, and The Pretty Wild, marking another milestone year for one of Tampa Bay’s premier rock events.
“This is our first ever 98ROCKFEST Eve, and we wanted to kick things off with something unforgettable,” said 98ROCK Programming Director AJ Malone. “An intimate night, killer bands, and a surprise performance you’ll only experience if you’re in the building. It’s the perfect way to fire up the weekend, and we can’t wait to share it with our ROCK family.”

The new project of Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell’s only son Jakob Nowell, Jakobs Castle is the sound of two worlds colliding in perfect union – the insouciant sounds of California’s past with the fresh mystery of internet underground culture.
Recording under his own label SVN/BVRNT, Jakobs Castle is old meets new. Beach meets the internet. 90’s Underground does Hyperpop. Imagine laying face up on the beach as waves of retro synth melodies wash over you like static, your body slowly dried by the heat of the emerging sun and skank guitars. It’s both pretty and gritty.
Active since 2022, Jakobs Castle has toured the country with emerging young artists like Sitting on Stacy, legacy musicians Jason Devore and Slightly Stoopid, as well as G. Love & Special Sauce, Common Kings and Long Beach Allstars. Standout tracks from ENTER: THE CASTLE include “Time Traveler” and “Catch Me”. With the burden of purpose and expectation held proudly, Jakobs Castle and its enigmatic frontman seek to break all convention and usher in a new era of California music.
Jakob has been quietly slipping new Sublime songs into Jakobs Castle’s recent setlists, surprising fans along the way. The frontman has been using the shows to test out never-before-heard material from Sublime’s upcoming record, alongside classic tracks pulled from the band’s legendary back catalog.
