When The Pier caught up with Pepper drummer and Law Records partner, Yesod Williams back in May, we discussed the return of Law Records and the signing of Katastro. “Those legends ended up being the opener on our 2014 summer tour with the Dirty Heads and I was instantly a fan,” says Williams. “They were different and fresh, then right after the tour they dropped ‘No Mud No Lotus’ and I fell in love!” Pepper vocalist/guitarist Kaleo Wassman and Mitch Sutherland produced Katastro’s new record.

Since 2007, Katastro has released 5 EP’s with their last one being No Mud No Lotus in 2014, making Strange Nights their first full length studio record. As a 4-piece creatively blending alternative rock, funk, blues, and hip hop, Katastro consists of: (vocalist) Andy Chaves, (drummer) Andrew Stravers, (guitarist) Tanner Riccio and (bassist) Ryan Weddle.

The group continues to leave an impression when given the opportunity. They go out on tour with Pepper and Dirty Heads back in 2015, so what happens? Pepper signs them to their own label with the purpose of releasing their debut album followed by the group notching a guest appearance by a member of Dirty Heads. These guys have their own unique style of music and it’s momentum is snowballing, culminating with the building anticipation for Strange Nights.

Here’s what Rebelution‘s guitarist/vocalist, Eric Rachmany, had to say regarding the group: “I was able to catch Katastro play at California Roots Festival this last year. They have a knack for creating very catchy vocal melodies that cut through the music. It’s hard to categorize them and I think that’s a great thing. Seeing them live is a must because you see four individuals that are playing the music for the love of it.”
