Left Coast Sound & RAS-1 Reunite the Spirit of ‘90s Reggae-Rock with New Single “Parachutes & Ladders”

Production duo Left Coast Sound—featuring David Foral (bassist of Dirty Heads) and longtime collaborator Jungle Josh—have teamed up with RAS-1, co-founder of Long Beach Dub Allstars, for their new single “Parachutes & Ladders,” available everywhere now.

The track marks a powerful return for RAS-1, a defining voice of the late-’90s reggae-rock movement. As a founding member of Long Beach Dub Allstars—formed in 1997 alongside surviving members of Sublime—RAS-1 helped carry the genre forward in the years following Bradley Nowell’s passing. During that era, Long Beach Dub Allstars emerged as a flagship act of reggae-rock, with bands like Slightly Stoopid and Pepper supporting them on tour, helping shape the scene that thrives today. RAS-1’s catalog includes standout tracks like “Trailer Ras” and “Sunny Hours,” the latter featuring will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas and gaining mainstream recognition as the theme song for the Friends spin-off series Joey.

Now, RAS-1 returns with “Parachutes & Ladders,” a collaboration written alongside Left Coast Sound that channels the spirit of Sublime’s “Santeria” while delivering a fresh, modern take. The single blends nostalgic melodies and laid-back grooves with contemporary production, bridging generations of reggae-rock fans.

“This song is a reflection of where the genre came from and where it’s headed,” says Left Coast Sound. “It’s rooted in that unmistakable ‘90s vibe but built for today.” In addition to co-writing and producing the track, David Foral also created the single’s cover artwork, further tying the project together visually and sonically. “Parachutes & Ladders” serves as both a tribute and a continuation—honoring the foundational era of reggae-rock while reintroducing one of its key voices to a new generation. As the genre continues to thrive across festivals and global audiences, this release underscores the enduring influence of its origins.
