This month has delivered a ton of new music of all sorts of genres from all over the globe, including a new release from Silverback’s singer-songwriter Mat McHugh.
An Australian musician, known for his work with The Beautiful Girls during the better part of the ‘00s, McHugh has now cultivated his solo career. Following his second solo album, 2012’s Love Come Save Me , McHugh via Control Substance Sound Labs has released several new tracks on a EP titled More Money.
Released February 18th, this extended play features the title track and extended remixes of live favorites. Again, working with longtime co-producer and multi-instrumentalist Ian Pritchet, composed of 3 tracks & just under 17 minutes in all, the release features McHugh’s signature vocals accompanied by a dual horn section with a MPS60II drum machine and a classic analogue bass synthesizer.
The new EP is a Dance-hall and Dub influenced continuation of his self-penned and home-recorded album, the Beautiful Girls’ last record, 2010’s Spooks. McHugh explains the EP is “heavily influenced by the early, naïve styles of Hip-Hop, Rocksteady, Dancehall and Dub, which I grew up loving… I like the way they’d have an old drum machine and a guy toasting over the top and making a bunch of other sounds with effects and delays and doing this whole sound system thing…That’s one of the directions I’ve continued.”
Currently working on his new full length album, be sure to check back for updates. Until then, pick up Mat McHugh’s new EP More Money on iTunes.
