Double Tiger’s “Ram Dancehall” Background:

Based out of Brooklyn, NY Sharp & Ready was recorded in Jay’s home studio and if listened to closely, it’s said that the spirit of the city can be heard spilling into the recording of the record. The entire album is a product of Jay’s hard work with a little help from his friends Nate Edgar (Nth Power, John Brown’s Body) and Borham Lee

The album comes in at 12 songs and displays the depth of Spaker’s musical background having spent the last 5 years putting the record together. Spaker’s background includes John Brown’s Body, as well as his role as half of Tour De Force, and co-founder of Dub Stuy Records. He’s also recognized for his previous collaborations alongside the likes of Luciano, Johnny Osbourne, Sly & Robbie, Rankin Joe, Brother Culture, Omar Perry, Al Campbell. Lutan Fyah, Eek A Mouse, and Scientist..

The sound of the album is best summed up by it’s press release sighting styles that range from familiar roots rock reggae, to energetic dancehall, followed by rub-a-dub, and transforming into smooth lover’s rock, leaving no stone unturned in this all-encompassing sonic journey that is Sharp & Ready.

What’s more is the album is a great listen from start to finish as you wont experience a top heavy record that falls off as the tracks get deeper. Our featured track off the record is the 12th & final song on the album with “Ram Dancehall” that features original JBB sax-man Lee Hamilton. Spaker tells The Pier that the song pays homage to the early dance-hall reggae era, highlighting his favorite Jamaican DJ’s with the likes of Super Cat, Rankin Joe & Burro Banton.

“I originally wrote the song specifically for the JBB live set but it found its way on Sharp & Ready,” Jay explains. “I was also inspired by the Deejay style of singing a lot on my many tours in France within the sound system scene. This major key type of song is a new love for me and I really love how the melodies come out of that particular chord progression.”

Jay will take his show on the road as Double Tiger this fall in support of Sharp & Ready where he’ll be performing the album, live. He’s putting his live band together that will include Nate Edgar of JBB/Nth Power, Jon Pang of Jah Works and Adam Flicker of Sensamotion.
