“Irie Radio” Background:
In July 2013, Krooked Treez quietly released their debut album, Higher Place, and since then, have only made a ton of noise with their unique Reggae-Hip Hop approach to the music scene. For one, they haven’t gone on a national tour, but they’ve played the Kubana Festival in Russia on back-to-back years in 2013-2014 & have performed at more than 7 different US festivals in 2014.
They’re set to work with Ras MG on the production of their next album with a rumored guest appearance by B-Real of Cypress Hill. In addition – the band has plans to hit the road on a US tour in 2015.
So this feels like the calm before the storm and while they’re in between albums, we hit up Krooked Treez to see if they had any unreleased acoustic or live material they’d be willing to share. What we got was one of the first recording of their song “Irie Radio” which is the 2nd track off their Higher Place album.
Krooked Treez vocalist, O Brown tells The Pier: “It was our 2nd song Bz Bwai and I recorded before we started the band. It was right after we dropped ‘Rebel I’, we hit up Alex Puente and asked him to make a Reggae/Rock/Hip-Hop track. Bz Bwai wrote the chorus on this one!”

Krooked Treez Background:
Based out of Southern, California is the Reggae Hip-Hop Rock kingpins come Krooked Treez. The band is comprised of veteran guitarist and California original Bobby Zen on bass; East Coast reggae percussionist Stephen Lashbrook; ultra-talented guitarist Adam Willis, drummer extraordinaire and music producer Alex Puente, along with keyboardist Paul Monico, a multi-faceted artist, who tightens the band with a free-flowing, unique sound that only these artists can deliver. Krooked Treez boasts years of experience amongst its members, whose backgrounds and diverse musical styles create a rich sound to compliment the vocal styles of Oscar Brown and BZ-Bwai. O. Brown, a veteran Belizean-Mexican emcee was mentored by West Coast Legend B-Real of Cypress Hill, connected with Belizean reggae/R&B Singer,BZ-Bwai.
The band has rocked three full houses at House of Blues on Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA and made an appearance on the 311 Cruise in 2013. They also headlined 2013’s U.S. Grand Prix Kick-Off Party to the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, as well as had their first international performance in the Black Sea at Russia’s famed Kubana Festival for an audience of nearly 200,000 two years in a row, sharing the stage with System of a Down, Misfits and Wutang. They were also voted by fans at ThePier.org as 2013 Break-Out Artist of the year!
In 2014, aside from a second trip to Russia, Krooked Treez took the main-stage at the California Roots Music and Arts Festival in May as well as playing several other festivals throughout the 2014 summer season including Summer Meltdown, South Park Music Festival in Colorado, Good Vibes festival, Unity at the Lake in Arizona, Unity Festival at the Russian River and Shoreline Jam in Long beach with Dirty Heads.
Heading into 2015, the group is working with Producer & former Sublime DJ/Drummer, Ras MG on a new album they expect out sometime next year. Stay tuned for more updates as we publish an Exclusive Interview with the Venice Beach, based group.
