“To My High School Friends” Background:
Street Pharmacy’s Pharmanomics EP (Handsome Boy/Fontana) is the first of two releases that involves some of Canada’s hottest new and most legendary producers. On Pharmanomics, primary songwriter and vocalist Ryan Guay collaborates with fellow producers Will Marr & John Doherty (illScarlett, Trouble & Daughter), Ian Blackwood (The Artist Life, Jersey), Adam Tune (Keys N Krates) and James Robertson (Skye Sweetnam, Down With Webster) to create a unique blend of genre bending reggae, pop, rock, folk and hip hop.

Here’s what vocalist Ryan Guay had to say about new song “To My High School Friends”
“It’s a song about how shitty high school was and how you’re forced to revisit it, and all those people you don’t want to see when you’re asked to go to your high school reunion. The song is a daydream I had about running into ex-girlfriends and people that weren’t your friends, but you thought we’re your friends, at the reunion. Nobody wants to see those people. And I’m sorry if this comes across as crass, but especially if they’re doing better than you are! I guess the truth is, no matter how much “fun” you can have in high school, you can’t kill enough brain cells to forget the things and the people you don’t want to remember.”

As for the new Pharmanomics EP coming out June 24, Ryan said that we could expect, “Brutal lyrical honesty. I really came from a place where I didn’t want to pull any punches.” Ryan continues on by explaining that “Pharmanomics took the hip-hop approach in terms of production. We had several different producers on a total of ten tracks that were split into two EPs. Each track has the stamp of the specific producer we worked with. As a songwriter, I feel that these songs are the best representation of Street Pharmacy’s eclectic mix of reggae, rock, pop, and hip hop to date.”Ryan Guay
