November 2014 Album Releases

2014 has been a huge year for new releases with so many records released from tons of our favorite artists. Of course, one of the biggest shopping months of the year is no different, delivering another blast of new tunes.

From the mainstream music flow, November brings several highly anticipated and well promoted records. Surely fans from many genres will enjoy listening to new tracks from the Foo fighters or Pink Floyd. As always, The Pier has a handful of new records that aren’t as notable, but contain music even more captivating. Be sure to check out these 10 new releases dropping through the month of November.

    J Boog – Live at The Bellyup

    Recently, J Boog performed two sold out nights at The Belly Up Tavern on September 2nd, 2014 with Hawaii’s Inna Vision and September 3rd with Mike Love. Backed by the Hot Rain Band, J Boog delivered an unforgettable performance that led to tracks from both nights being mixed together to compose a 13-song feature on the “Belly Up Live!” installments. This live J Boog album, made available for purchase on November 4th, showcases J Boog’s truly unique and exciting fusion of authentic Island Music and genuine Jamaican Reggae. J Boog’s new live album features “Let’s Do It Again”, “Break Us Apart” and the classic “Police and Thieves.”

    Katastro – No Mud No Lotus
    Release Date: November 4th

    Based in Tempe, Arizona & formed in 2007, Katastro has released their newest 9 track EP titled No Mud No Lotus. For their 5th release, Katastro chose to work with producer Curtis Douglas (The Maine, Eagles In Drag, This Century, Austin Gibbs and Sarah Robinson, The Midnight Special) at Red Mountain Studios. Douglas had this to say about Katastro’s new EP: “With this record we set out to produce an album that would take them further (musically) than their previous stuff, while not messing up their sound, making sure we do it justice. They’re an amazing band, and great guys to work with. They should be bigger.”

    Gentleman – MTV Unplugged

    To be honest, the classic days of MTV Unplugged is what influenced The Pier to explore a video approach with The Pier’s Live Acoustic Series. So you could imagine how excited we were to see MTV put out an amazingly quality production with German based Reggae-Roots-Dancehall artist, Gentleman. In fact, in the 25 years MTV has ran the series, they have never featured a Reggae artist, until now! Released on Nov 7th, the performance includes 31 tracks featuring guest appearances by Ky-Mani Marley, Campino, Marlon Roudette, Shaggy, Milky Chance, Tanya Stephens, Christopher Martin, Martin Jondo and Tamika.

    Blue King Brown – Born Free

    Following 2010’s Worldwize, Pt. 1 – North & South Blue King Brown is back with their latest record, Born Free. Featuring 10 tracks, the album was recorded in Kingston, Jamaica at the Marleys’ legendary Tuff Gong studios and, Sing Sing studios as well as Blue King Brown’s studio in Melbourne Australia. The production team includes Mista Savona, Aria Award winning producer Styalz Fuego, Notis productions from Kingston, Jamaica and mixed by multi-Grammy award winning engineer James ‘Bonzai’ Caruso.

    311 – Live w/ the Unity Orchestra

    Earlier this year, on the 11th of March, 311 celebrated 311 Day with a concert and a release of their latest record, Stereolithic. Now, on Nov. 18th, 311 will follow their 11th studio record with the release of their second live album, a recording from their big 311 Day bi-annual concert. Recorded by Scotch Ralston, mixed by Chad Sexton and mastered by Joe Gastwirt, 311 will release “311 with the Unity Orchestra” on CD, limited-edition 180 gram vinyl and MP3 on Nov 18th. High quality digital downloads (FLAC & ALAC) will also be available.

    Rick Haze – The Dopest Roots
    Release Date: November 18th

    To follow Daily Observations, his release from earlier this year, Rick Haze is back with more new tunes in 2014. Titled The Dopest Roots the record is composed of an intro, five tracks, and five dub tracks. The album features guest appearances with Inna Vision, Midnite, Arise Roots and SkillinJah.

    Lady Saw – Alter Ego

    This month VP Records’ VPAL, working with Lady Saw’s label Diva Records, are set to release her new 14-track album Alter Ego. Available November 18, the Queen of Dancehall is celebrating 25 years in the business with the new record. Said to showcase her creativity, the record features collaborations with Beres Hammond, Estelle, Ali Campbell of UB40 and Flo-Rida.

    Bob Marley – Uprising Live [DVD+CD]

    Back on June 13th, 1980, during his Ultimate Uprising Tour, Bob Marley performed in Dortmund, Germany. This performance, captured for German TV, will now be available on DVD and CD for the first time ever this November! Released via Eagle Rock Entertainment Uprising Live! “features footage that has been restored to the best quality possible with an energetic set by Marley that includes such classics as “I Shot The Sheriff,” “No Woman No Cry,” “Jamming,” “Is This Love” and “Exodus,” “Redemption Song,” “Is This Love,” Get Up, Stand Up,” “Could You Be Loved” and many more great tracks.

    The Movement – Beneath The Palms

    On November 24th The Movement surprised everyone with the quiet release of their All-Acoustic album titled Beneath The Palms. It features 11 older songs with the addition of both Sublime & Bob Marley covers! The album was recorded on both coasts, outside on the front porch at The Movement’s Compound Studio in California, as well as in Bonita Springs, Florida at Sugar Shack. This all acoustic album better identifies The Movement as being side by side, showing fans how well they sound when performing raw & uncut.     Fishbone – Truth And Soul

    Attention Fishbone Soldiers! For Record Store Day, on Black Friday, the Limited edition Vinyl LP Truth And Soul will be available in stores only, while supplies last. The band will also release their EP Intrinsically Intertwined from earlier this year, on vinyl for the first time Courtesy of Asbestos Records.
