Sunny San Diego has linked up once again with the release of Ocean Beach’s newly connected duo, Piracy Meets Tommy Dubs. On May 28th, the San Diego Dancehall DJ known as Piracy Mel C teamed up with dub and digital producer, Tommy Dubs to bring you the album, “Kick Rocks.”

This highly anticipated collaboration features 13 tracks that contain heavy dub sounds, reggae riddims, Latin flavor and raw dancehall DJ vocals mixed throughout. With B-Side Players member and solo artist, Karlos Paez accompanied by David Ornelas of Stranger on the track “New Uprising,” Tommy Dubs and Piracy have created a conscious melody perfect for bringing sunshine to any day.

Other guest features include Aleko from Barcelona’s Planeta Lem and a remix done by the $uper Geniu$ crew coming out of Miami.

The album was dropped just two days after the 4th Annual California Roots Festival ended, where Piracy Mel jumped on stage with the legendary, Don Carlos on day 2. Also performing with Naia Kete on Day 3 of the festival, Piracy was well received and Mel made sure to expose her talents to those in attendance.

Tommy Dubs had this to say about his musical adventure with Piracy, “We have known each other only 2 years maybe and literally have been recording tracks the whole time. I feel like we are kindred spirits musically and work really great together. Piracy is wicked talented and she has a huge future…. I love that she is so willing to go in any direction on a track.”

Tommy Dubs also has a music podcast that he is a part of known as “A Sunny Place For Shady People.” The San Diego based podcast focuses on local and touring bands in all genres, especially Reggae and Rock N Roll. Tommy added, “We were lucky enough to be a sponsor of California Roots Music Festival and they let us bring our shadyness to them and interview the bands. We are currently releasing the episodes from Cali Roots on iTunes and Stitcher, so go like our page on Facebook.” You can find the Podcast on Facebook by clicking HERE!

With the release of Piracy Meets Tommy Dubs – “Kick Rocks,” this duo has made a statement that they belong in the scene. Be on the lookout for plenty of releases by these two in the future that will continue to showcase Piracy’s versatile style of switching between dancehall MC to freestyle queen to singing on the hook and Tommy Dubs ability to produce music and add vocals that complement all those styles.
