There is something effortless about the way RDGLDGRN move between genres, and their new single “Virginia Beach” featuring Surfer Girl is one of the clearest examples of that yet.
The track, selected as this week’s Song of the Week on Skratch N Sniff’s Alternative Mix, blends indie pop melodies with hip hop bounce and reggae-rock undertones in a way that feels natural rather than calculated. It is a song that sits comfortably in multiple worlds, which is exactly what makes it resonate.
RDGLDGRN have built their identity around that kind of flexibility. Over the years, they have collaborated with artists like Pharrell Williams and Dave Grohl, while also earning placements across major platforms including NPR’s Tiny Desk and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Their recent single “Stay With Me” featuring Little Stranger landing in Madden NFL 2026 only adds to that growing list of milestones.
“Virginia Beach” arrives alongside the band’s latest full-length project, The Gold Album, which expands their sonic palette even further. The album brings together a wide range of collaborators including Nick Hexum of 311, as well as Little Stranger, Ballyhoo!, Kash’d Out, Jarv, and Ries Brothers, reflecting a community that spans reggae, alternative, and beyond.
There is also a geographic thread running through the collaboration. RDGLDGRN represent Virginia, while Surfer Girl bring a Los Angeles by way of Boston perspective, and “Virginia Beach” feels like a meeting point between those scenes. It is laid-back but intentional, catchy without being overproduced, and grounded in a sense of place even as it pulls from multiple influences.
As RDGLDGRN continue their 25-date co-headlining tour with Jarv, the release feels like part of a larger moment for the band, one where their sound and audience are expanding at the same time.
You can catch “Virginia Beach” spinning all weekend on Skratch N Sniff’s Alternative Mix. Check snsmix.com/radio to find where the show airs near you, and revisit the full mix when it hits SoundCloud on Monday.
