Today, we celebrate the birthdays of two reggae-rock legends, SA Martinez (311) and Yesod Williams (Pepper).
Doug “SA” Martinez – Born October 29, 1969
Martinez has been a member of 311 since 1992. He had been making various appearances with the band as a vocalist, and then was officially asked to join the group. To date, 311 has released 13 studio albums, two live albums, and four compilation records, along with four EPs and four DVDs. Additionally, Martinez has also played in some side projects that include Ghostwolf (vocals) – ‘Lunar Halos’ (2012) and Los Stellarians (vocals). 311 wraps up their fall tour on November 12th, then will play Closer To The Sun in December. In 2023, the band will head out on the 311 Caribbean Cruise for their seventh 311 Day at Sea, which will take place on the Norwegian Pearl from March 8-13, 2023.
Yesod Williams – Born October 29, 1979
Yesod Williams celebrates his 44th birthday today. Williams is the drummer of the band Pepper. Pepper is a three-piece reggae-rock band originally from Hawaii, now based in San Diego formed in 1997. The band consists of himself, vocalist/guitarist Kaleo Wassman, and vocalist/bassist Bret Bollinger. As the group struggled to find a drummer to be in the band, Wassman and Bollinger heard about a drummer named Yesod Williams who had gained success around their small town. They later met Williams at a party, and they convinced him to join the band. Pepper continues to tour and will be going on the 20 Years of Kona Tour next year.
