Los Angeles-based electronic project sportscar returns with a sleek new release, SO HOT, a dance-forward single that pushes deeper into house-inspired territory while keeping one foot rooted in indie and alt-pop sensibilities.
sportscar is the latest creative outlet from Carter Reeves Schultz, best known as the frontman of Surfer Girl and formerly one half of Aer. With this project, Schultz shifts focus toward electronic production, building a sound that leans into pulsing rhythms, late-night textures, and a more club-oriented energy.
SO HOT continues that evolution, landing as a confident step forward for the project. The track blends glossy synth work with a steady house groove, delivering something that feels equally at home on a dancefloor or in a curated summer playlist. It marks one of sportscar’s most direct entries into electronic territory so far, showcasing Schultz’s versatility beyond his roots in indie and reggae-adjacent pop.
The project first took shape with Rush Hour (sportscar remix), a reimagining of a fan-favorite Surfer Girl track featuring Bryce Vine. The original version appeared on Surfer Girl’s latest album Sunset, released April 18, which featured a wide range of collaborators including Collie Buddz, Khalia, Bobby Alu, Emily Brimlow, Jah Lil, and Veni Sun.
While Rush Hour introduced the sportscar sound through reinterpretation, SO HOT feels like a clearer statement of intent. It is less about reworking past material and more about establishing a distinct sonic lane, one that pulls from house music, electronic pop, and Schultz’s melodic instincts.
With SO HOT, sportscar continues to carve out its identity as more than a side project. It is a natural extension of Schultz’s artistry, one that opens the door to a broader electronic future while staying connected to the songwriting that brought him here.
