Sublime paid a visit to NBC’s long running morning show, TODAY, with a special performance of their hit song “Ensenada.”
“First off, this is crazy! Mark Ronson is here,” smiling frontman Jakob Nowell remarked during the brief interview period of the segment. The singer gave a shout out to his grandparents and also noted the band hadn’t gotten much sleep the night prior, having just played the Sea.Hear.Now festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
When the TODAY team revealed that “Ensenada” just hit No. 1 on Billboard’s alternative chart – a feat Sublime hadn’t achieved in nearly 30 years – Jakob was humble.
“We were just jamming, having fun. We weren’t really trying to write a ‘radio’ song,” he explained. “I guess all the new fans, young kids out there, and their families, they’re just really excited to hear some new material and see us all jamming together.”
“Bring your family to the show, we do say a lot of curse words,” the rocker remarked, only to have longtime TODAY host Al Roker quickly interject, “But not this morning!”
