Sublime History with Eddie Villa: East Coast Roots to House of Blues — April 5, 1995 & 1996

On April 5, 1995, Sublime played TT the Bear’s Place in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a staple venue in the East Coast indie and punk circuit. At the time, the band was still grinding it out on the road, building a following city by city. Shows like this reflect the raw, unpredictable energy that defined their early years, driven by frontman Bradley Nowell.

Exactly one year later, on April 5, 1996, Sublime returned to the stage for the second night of a run at the House of Blues. By this point, the band was on the verge of a major shift, with their self-titled album just weeks away from release. The setting may have been bigger, but the energy remained the same.

Footage from that 1996 performance, including a crowd camera angle added by Eddie Villa, offers a rare perspective from inside the room. It captures a band still rooted in the scene that built them, even as their reach was about to expand far beyond it.
