The Pier: Happy 7th Birthday

The Pier: Happy 7th Birthday

Today, August 15th 2014, The Pier celebrates its 7th Birthday! It all started on this day, 7 years ago by ‘Pilipo!‘ What started out as a blog ran by 1 person, has now grown into an online magazine that includes multiple writers, photographers & staff – all providing coverage, Meet N Greets & content in 10+ states!

Since 2007, The Pier has remained your No. 1 online destination for all things Reggae-Rock. We’ve released multiple FREE Samplers, including regional samplers spotlighting reggae music in Japan, The Pacific Island & Pacific northwest. In August of 2009, The Pier celebrated its 1st official release with The Pier Comp Vol. 1 that was sponsored by Skullcandy and Gravity Skateboards. At the time of its release, The Pier Comp Vol. 1 featured New and Unreleased music by 19 different artists submitting 19 songs exclusive to the compilation. The Pier Comp Vol. 1 was the first physical release of the hit single “Lay Me Down” performed by The Dirty Heads featuring Rome of Sublime with Rome. In its 1st release, The Pier Comp Vol. 1 sold in 30+ states and 10 different countries by word of mouth, exclusively through The Pier’s own shopping cart.

In 2012, The Pier debuted The Pier’s Live Acoustic Series with up & coming Director, Tage Plantell and producer, Kit Chalberg. Since 2012, we’ve filmed Cas Haley, The Green, Dirty Heads, Iration, Tarrus Riley, Ballyhoo!, Passafire, John Butler Trio, Zach Deputy and Aer. These are high quality music videos with the artists playing an acoustic or stripped down versions of their music, live – View the videos below!

Over the years, we’ve interviewed some of your favorite reggae-rock artists, everyone from Sublime, 311, Shaggy, SOJA, Slightly Stoopid as well as the majority of the Marley family and many more (too many to name!) We’ve initiated live artist Meet N Greets in multiple states, taking your pictures with your favorite artists.

  • Every Friday, we publish our Weekend Show Locator and have published 217 straight Show Locator articles as of this Friday.
  • We have our FREE Music section known as the MP3 Massive, where you can download FREE MP3’s from some of your favorite artists as well as some unknown bands you can discover.
  • Every Sunday, we premiere a NEW & FREE MP3 Leak on our homepage, known as MP3 Leak of the Week followed by an article that further details the band & song.
  • Oh yea, not to mention THOUSANDS of photos from our very talented photography team accompanied by Daily News from our experienced staff-writers. Pair that with Album Reviews & Concert Articles, 7 years has gone by fast & fun with all of your support!

    Into The Future…

Online Store: Yes! It’s been over 2 years since we had an active online store. We plan to re-launch this Fall with new Pier T-shirts & Tank Tops, Exclusive MP3’s, Rare Compilation CDs, DVDs, Posters (some of them signed), Calendars & accessories. The Cart is pretty much done and we’re just doing some testing & tweaking to perfect the store before its official launch. Stay tuned because our store will coincide with our content & we will pack every outgoing order with a TON of FREE Stickers – After all, stickers should always be FREE, don’t you agree?

New Pier Compilation: The Pier Compilation Volume 1 was five years ago. While we cant give you too many details, we are planning another Pier Compilation, only this one will be unlike any other Compilation you’ve seen The Pier put out. Stay tuned!

MP3 Massive: We’re not going to sugarcoat it, we’re not happy with how our MP3 Massive page is laid out. We’re in the process of recreating our MP3 Massive Page to almost look like it’s own website. You will be able to search by band and hear samples of songs before deciding to download the music. In short, we’re going to make it easier for you to find & download FREE music instead of just searching page after page. FREE Music is a big part of our site and we want to put further emphasis on making the FREE even easier for you guys!

New MEDIA Page: We admit that our Media page is far outdated which is why we’re excited to add a Photo-Gallery, Video Section & new Desktop/Cellphone wallpapers as well as avatars. Our Live Acoustic Series are taking off and we only have bigger plans to expand our video department.

New Phone-App: We been hearing this for awhile and we understand that we ABSOLUTELY need to enable you all with a convenient phone-app to make it easier for you to stay connected to the reggae-rock scene on the go. Having a phone-app for news is almost like having 2 different websites dishing out the same news. Stay tuned as we work through this to bring you the best possible news via your phone!

Thank you all again for the continued love & support. We value this community beyond words & have so much planned in the future – Stay tuned!
