Veni Sun has released “Lake Song,” a new collaboration with G. Love & Special Sauce issued through Ineffable Records. The single connects Veni Sun’s relaxed mixture of indie, folk, electronic atmosphere and reggae-adjacent songwriting with the roots, blues and hip-hop vocabulary G. Love has developed over more than three decades.
Veni Sun is the San Diego-based bedroom music project of songwriter Jared Henry. The project’s official biography describes its music as being closely connected to outdoor experiences and travel, with guitar, synthesizer and ambient textures used to translate those environments into songs.
The collaboration works because both artists have built identities around informality. Veni Sun’s recordings often favor an intimate, unhurried presentation, while G. Love & Special Sauce have long blurred the boundaries between blues, hip-hop, funk and acoustic roots music.
“Lake Song” brings those perspectives into a setting shaped by water, open space and temporary escape. Its summertime character is not simply about weather. The song draws on the familiar desire to step away from routines and recover a slower sense of time, whether that means leaving the city, gathering with friends or returning to a place associated with earlier memories.
G. Love’s involvement also creates a connection between generations of independent roots music. G. Love & Special Sauce emerged from Philadelphia in the 1990s with a sound that treated blues guitar and hip-hop rhythm as parts of the same language. Veni Sun’s genre-mixing arrives from a different technological and cultural moment, but it is built on a similarly open understanding of roots music.
The single follows “County Line,” Veni Sun’s January 2026 collaboration with Surfer Girl. Together, the releases show Henry developing the project through carefully selected partnerships rather than abandoning its intimate core for a larger, more conventional band sound.
That approach has helped Veni Sun enter alternative-reggae and festival spaces while remaining distinct from a straightforward reggae-rock act. The songwriting can draw on reggae rhythm, indie-pop melody, folk instrumentation and electronic ambience without making any one influence responsible for the entire project.
G. Love’s presence expands the track’s reach, but the collaboration remains tied to Veni Sun’s established interest in landscape, movement and the emotional associations attached to particular places.
“Lake Song” is available now through Ineffable Records.
