G. Love Hails Sublime’s Comeback: ‘It’s the Coolest Story in Rock’

Fans across the world have embraced Sublime’s comeback in 2025, but none may be more excited than fellow musician, G. Love.

“It’s the coolest story in rock and roll and everybody needs to be talking about Sublime now because it’s almost like the musical Game of Thrones,” the beloved singer-songwriter declares during a conversation with The Pier. “We had the opportunity to take Jakob and his project Jakobs Castle on the road with us the winter before [Sublime] headlined the Coachella. And it was really cool to get really get to know Jakob.”

“You can close your eyes and you can hear his father when he sings but he’s also himself, G. Love explains. “I say it’s like the musical Game of Thrones because it’s like the King in the North has returned or or the King in the West has returned, you know, to claim the throne.”

Sublime’s 2025 revival has included thunderous festival performances and a new hit, “Ensenada,” which recently claimed No. 1 on Billboard Alternative Airplay chart. The group’s success this year has rewritten what was, for many years, a somber conclusion to the band.

“When we think about Sublime we think about one of the most tragic stories in rock and roll and music ever,” G Love continues, noting Bradley’s death in 1996 that abruptly brought Sublime to an end right as they were achieving “massive success which became a generational, genre-defining musical experience.”

Now, with Jakob behind the mic, Sublime has taken control of their narrative. A new album is on the horizon, and G. Love is excited to be part of it.

“It’s been an honor to get to know Jakob,” the singer declares. “I’m so honored and just over the moon. I’m gonna be on a collab on the new record.”

Though G. Love never met Bradley, he says he’s “blown away” to have forged a friendship with Jakob. “[To] get to know his son who calls me Uncle G — which kinda makes me feel old,” he admits, laughing. “I’m just really excited for Jakob and I’m really excited for Eric and Bud.”

Sublime’s next major festival will be Mission Bayfest, taking place in San Diego October 17-19. Meanwhile, G. Love has his own festival coming up. The musician is headliner and curator of the Outermost Roots & Blues festival, taking place in Orleans, Massachusetts on October 11 and 12.
