When Nashville’s Moon Taxi — the indie/alt rock outfit who’ve spent nearly two decades refining a blend of jangly guitars, jam-band spontaneity, and radio-ready hooks — link up with Vermont-bred reggae-leaning songwriter Mihali, the result is something that feels both effortless and intentional.
Their latest single, “Steady Rising,” sees the two acts capitalizing on a chemistry first hinted at last year. Moon Taxi previously appeared alongside Mihali on “King of the Low”, a standout cut from Mihali’s 2025 album Before the Dream, a record rooted in genre-blending grooves and collaborative spirit.
“Steady Rising” merges Moon Taxi’s expansive alternative sensibilities with Mihali’s roots-forward, reggae-inflected warmth, landing somewhere between indie rock uplift and coastal ease. Rather than functioning as a simple feature, the track feels like a true collaboration — one that highlights both artists’ strengths without compromising either identity.
The song will appear on Moon Taxi’s forthcoming album Highwave, due out March 6 on
Ineffable Records. The project includes additional guest appearances from The Movement, G. Love, Tropidelic, Bobby Alu, and Claire Wright, signaling a broad-minded approach that pulls equally from indie, jam, and reggae-adjacent worlds.
Moon Taxi’s recent move to Ineffable Records marks a notable expansion of their sonic palette, aligning them with a label known for genre-fluid artists and crossover experimentation — a shift that feels fully realized on “Steady Rising.” If this track is any indication, Highwave may be the band’s most adventurous chapter yet.
