Mouse Powell Floats Between Hip-Hop, Reggae-Rock and Alternative on “Light as a Feather”

Mouse Powell has returned with his new single “Light as a Feather,” a laid-back but confident release that continues to bridge the worlds of hip-hop, reggae-rock and alternative music.

The Phoenix, Arizona artist has built his name through a sound that moves easily between scenes. Rooted first in underground hip-hop, Mouse Powell developed a following through sharp lyricism, offbeat personality and a delivery that feels loose without losing focus. That foundation has continued to expand as his music has found a home among reggae-rock and alternative audiences.

“Light as a Feather” captures that crossover space. The single leans into Powell’s relaxed vocal style while carrying the kind of melodic, feel-good energy that fits naturally alongside the modern reggae-rock world.
Before carving out this lane as a solo artist, Powell made noise in the underground hip-hop space through two collaborative projects with Seattle rapper Grieves under the group name Why Not?. Those releases helped establish Powell as an artist comfortable with collaboration, humor and lyrical chemistry.

More recently, Powell has become increasingly visible within the reggae-rock scene. Collaborations with artists like Katastro and Artikal Sound System have helped introduce him to a wider audience, while his performance at California Roots Festival in Monterey this year further cemented his connection to the community.
