RDGLDGRN continue one of the busiest stretches of their career with “Gimme Some Love,” a new collaboration with The Movement and Vanela released August 7 through Ineffable Records. The track brings three distinct perspectives together inside a bright crossover of reggae, alternative rock and pop, further expanding the increasingly wide musical world RDGLDGRN have been building around their recent releases.
The collaboration is particularly natural for a group that has never treated genre boundaries as especially important. RDGLDGRN came out of Reston, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C., developing a sound informed by hip-hop, rock, pop and the syncopated influence of D.C. go-go. Reggae has become an increasingly visible component of that formula in their recent work, and “Gimme Some Love” pushes that connection further by bringing in The Movement, one of the established bands in the modern American reggae-rock scene.
Vanela adds another layer to the collaboration. Her history with RDGLDGRN goes back well before this release, including the 2020 single “Good Life.” On “Gimme Some Love,” the combination of voices gives the song a collaborative feel rather than simply presenting The Movement and Vanela as add-on features. RDGLDGRN’s Bandcamp credits list Vanela on vocals and arrangement, The Movement on vocals, and the RDGLDGRN lineup contributing vocals, guitar, bass, drums, production and arrangement.
Musically, the track balances the harder edge of RDGLDGRN’s guitar-driven side with calmer verses and an accessible reggae-pop foundation. That push and pull is central to what makes the collaboration work. The song can move comfortably into a reggae playlist without losing the alternative energy that has defined RDGLDGRN since their earliest releases.
“Gimme Some Love” has already received a major placement beyond the reggae world. The song appears on the official Madden NFL 27 soundtrack, putting RDGLDGRN, The Movement and Vanela alongside a broad 2026 soundtrack lineup that includes artists from hip-hop, rock, alternative and other genres. The new single arrives only months after RDGLDGRN released The Gold Album, their 14-track, 40-minute album issued March 20 under exclusive license to Ineffable Records. The project pushed the group further into the current reggae and alternative crossover space while surrounding them with collaborators including Little Stranger, Surfer Girl, Nick Hexum of 311, Kash’d Out, Ballyhoo!, Jarv and The Ries Brothers.
That collaborative approach feels like an evolution of a philosophy that has been present throughout RDGLDGRN’s career. Their early rise included one of the more unusual origin stories of the 2010s alternative scene. While recording at the legendary Sound City Studios, the Virginia group connected with fellow Northern Virginia native Dave Grohl, who played drums across nearly their entire debut record. Pharrell Williams, another Virginia native, also became part of their story, co-writing “Doing the Most.”
Those associations helped bring wider attention to RDGLDGRN, but the band has spent the years since establishing an identity that is difficult to reduce to its famous collaborators. Their catalog has moved through alternative hip-hop, indie rock, go-go, pop, reggae and rap without completely settling into any of them. That flexibility has become increasingly useful as the boundaries between the American reggae scene and alternative music continue to blur.
“Gimme Some Love” feels especially at home inside that space. The Movement bring an established reggae-rock presence, Vanela provides another melodic dimension and RDGLDGRN supply the rhythmic and stylistic unpredictability that has always separated them from straightforward genre acts.
The timing also puts the song directly in front of a live audience. RDGLDGRN are scheduled to join Kash’d Out on the Good Karma Summer Tour beginning August 19 in St. Louis. The confirmed run includes 13 shows with RDGLDGRN through September 4, traveling through Louisville, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Buffalo, Ocean City, Pembroke, Hartford, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Raleigh, Asheville and Atlanta.
Between The Gold Album, a major video-game soundtrack placement and another national run of shows, “Gimme Some Love” arrives during a period when RDGLDGRN appear to be widening their audience without narrowing their sound. Their partnership with The Movement and Vanela works because the artists meet in the middle instead of forcing one another into a specific category.
