Slightly Stoopid To Perform ‘Acoustic Roots,’ Live & Direct

Slightly Stoopid is making their return to Mexico the first week of December for a week of live music and with this years line-up, there’s even more to be excited about.

Nov. 30th – Dec 4th, Slightly Stoopid will be accompanied by some of their friends performing multiple sets. Stoopid will be accompanied by live-sets from: UB40, Michael Franti, Thievery Corporation, Stick Figure, Pepper, Alborosie, G. Love & Specia Sauce, The Expendables, The Movement, and Hirie.

The Return of Slightly Stoopid’s Live & Direct: Acoustic Roots

What makes this years event so special is the announcement that Slightly Stoopid plans to play their Acoustic Roots album in its entirety for the first time since the original was recorded! The album was originally recorded in August of 2000 and released January of 2001. The session was recorded live, on-air with San Diego’s ROCK 105.3 and done in one-take capturing lighting in a bottle with mind blowing performances of songs such as “Cool Me Down,” “Fire Shot,” “Wiseman,” “Collie Man,” “Devils Door,” and more! This record generated the momentum that lead to them releasing Everything You Need in 2003. CloserToTheSun2018

It’s long been the voice of fans who want to see a repeat of Acoustic Roots with a sequel to the 2001 classic. Ever since that one-take Kyle & Miles acoustic duet with dueling guitars while trading vocals and hooks, fans have been salivating for more of that same concept. At the very least, we hope Acoustic Roots finds its way on wax to be enjoyed on Vinyl. In any case, seeing them revisit this iconic performance should be one for the books!

Collaborative Performances In Mexico

One of the biggest surprises for Slightly Stoopid’s upcoming album is a guest appearance by Ali Campbell of UB40 on their cover of Peter Tosh’s “Legalize It.” Ali tells The Pier that there are a couple of other songs he’s in production with Stoopid on, including a cover of John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy.” With UB40’s inclusion in this event, we’re sure hoping to see a live collaboration of what they’ve been doing in the studio together!

Alborosie will also be in attendance and is featured on a new Slightly Stoopid song, “If You Want It.” With Stick Figure & Pepper on the bill, we’re sure to see all of their collective collaborations taking place live as Stoopid has done a couple of songs with Stick Figure, as well as one with Pepper.

Another fun thing to note is Pepper has released their own signature wine called The Kona Town Red Blend — What are the odds they have the wine available with an official taste test review from Ali of UB40, perhaps before “Red Red Wine”? Too Much? Well us fans can nerd out at the prospects of what a fantastic line-up can entail!

There will be 3 full shows by Slightly Stoopid, 2 by Stick Figure, Pepper, Michael Franti & G. Love. Franti & Love will each perform an acoustic set as their second performance. Everyone else will be playing 1 set a piece.

This years event will take place about an hour south of the Cancun Airport at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya, Mexico. The all inclusive vacation includes unlimited food & drinks with specially curated munchies throughout the event. In addition, there will be many pools, swim up bars, and beachfront hangs or shreds at Woodward extreme sports center.
