Although Mike has previously performed with members of the Slightly Stoopid horns section, he does just as well on his own! Songs that include horns on the recording (like many from the latest album, “Truthful Lies”) still sound great live without a full band. Cook’s farm is an ideal festival setting on a few acres and one dirt road onto the property. The unforgiving thorns of the blackberry bushes create a natural security fence and a delicious summer snack. Tents and RVs filled the surrounding area around a few food trucks and vendor booths. In true Washington fashion, the beer garden was placed next to the dab booth from Pacific NW Roots and Alchemy Labs. The inaugural Rootfire at the Beach was one of the summer’s hottest concerts. Taking place along Avila Beach, California, the mini festival featured the likes of Collie Buddz, Stephen Marley and Tribal Seeds. Talking to Rootfire founder Seth Herman before the event, he stressed the importance of setting and healthy living as inspirations for the festival. Everything Is Awesome is part of the ongoing Marymoor Park Concert Series managed by AEG Live. Thanks to Slightly Stoopid, Silverback Music, and Raised Fist Propaganda, The Pier got full access throughout the venue for this amazing show. The Pier’s own Blake Taylor and myself were granted access to the photo pit, backstage, and after-party for the full tour experience.
