The 22nd annual Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is right around the corner. Happening June 19th-21st this year the annual world peace and summer solstice gathering returns with another amazing line-up to fuel a weekend of camping and fun.
Held at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, California, this event brings together musicians, and fans from around the world for a three day festival. Artists are set to perform on two stages, while dance & drum troupes perform on a third in the International Arts, Crafts and Food Bazaar. The event even boasts children’s activities held in the Kids Zone and an early morning yoga and a late night dancehall session, to make for several full days and nights of action!
With onsite camping available as well as alternate options for accommodations, the free daily yoga class starts the mornings off Saturday and Sunday under the pines in the Village Stage Area. After the stages go dark, the indoor dancehall fires up with DJ’s from around the world playing global grooves into the wee hours of the morning.
This year’s lineup has something for everyone with groups from the original era of reggae music that SNWMF is noted for hosting over the years including Polynesian-Jawaiian styles to the West Coast style that has recently evolved. World music is also heavily represented this year from hybrid African-rock to traditional Latin Cumbia. What distinguishes this event from all of the other reggae festivals is the amount of traditional artists from the pre-reggae rock-steady and ska eras.
Ending each night of music are sets from three of today’s top performing artists. Friday night the day’s headliner is Steel Pulse, on Saturday, after a packed lineup on two stages, Jimmy Cliff plays as the headliner. On Sunday Thievery Corporation closes things down with their talented fusion of worldly sounds. The entire artist lineup listed day-by-day can be found below.
