Bedouin Soundclash and Collie Buddz have given their 2026 collaboration “Bang-A-Lang” another life with the newly released “Bang-A-Lang (J-Vibe Version).”
Released August 28 through Ineffable Records, the new version hands the track to J-Vibe for a fresh interpretation built around the rhythm and easygoing energy at the center of the original collaboration.
The first version of “Bang-A-Lang” arrived May 27, bringing together two artists who have spent years approaching reggae from very different directions.
For Bedouin Soundclash, the collaboration fits naturally into a career defined by moving between reggae, ska, punk, indie rock and world music rather than remaining tied to a single scene. Collie Buddz, meanwhile, brings the unmistakable vocal style that has made the Bermuda-raised artist one of the most recognizable voices in modern reggae.
Formed in 2001, the Canadian group built its reputation by treating reggae as a starting point rather than a limitation. Jay Malinowski and Eon Sinclair emerged internationally with Sounding a Mosaic, the album that included the band’s enduring breakthrough “When the Night Feels My Song.”
Produced by Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer, Sounding a Mosaic helped introduce Bedouin Soundclash’s mixture of reggae rhythm, punk attitude and melodic songwriting to a much larger audience. The band went on to win the JUNO Award for New Group of the Year in 2006 and continued expanding its sound across records including Street Gospels and Light the Horizon.
Their 2019 album MASS pushed that experimentation even further. Recorded in New Orleans with members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band involved in the sessions, the project incorporated soul, jazz and Caribbean influences into the group’s already wide-ranging foundation.
Bedouin Soundclash followed it with 2022’s We Will Meet in a Hurricane, continuing a catalogue that has rarely stayed in one place for long.
“Bang-A-Lang” brings that history into conversation with Collie Buddz, whose career has similarly crossed boundaries inside contemporary reggae. Since breaking internationally in the 2000s, Buddz has moved between reggae, dancehall and crossover collaborations while maintaining a vocal delivery immediately recognizable across all three.
That contrast gives “Bang-A-Lang” much of its appeal. Bedouin Soundclash bring their loose, genre-blurring approach while Buddz supplies the track with a relaxed reggae presence that feels completely at home inside it.
With the J-Vibe Version, the collaboration is pushed even further toward the rhythmic side of that equation.
Remixes and alternate versions have always played an important role in reggae and dub culture, where a song can continue evolving after its initial release through new mixes, riddims and interpretations. “Bang-A-Lang (J-Vibe Version)” follows that tradition by treating the May original not as a finished object but as material that can be reshaped.
More than two decades into Bedouin Soundclash’s career, that willingness to keep moving remains one of the group’s defining characteristics.
