Hawaiian reggae group Seven Suns have returned with “Alibi,” an upbeat new single released through Ineffable Records.
Built around infectious melody, bright rhythm and the group’s modern island sound, “Alibi” captures the feel-good energy that has helped Seven Suns emerge as one of Hawai?i’s most promising new reggae acts. The track balances accessibility with the musical depth of a seven-member group whose individual backgrounds extend across performance, songwriting, production and engineering.
Seven Suns describe themselves as a collective of seven artists, producers, engineers, backing musicians and musical directors. The group consists of Justin Kawika Young, Shawn Kekoa Pimental, Jason Tupuola-Aiono, Phil Crown, Pi?i Miguel, Ethan Capone and Paul Kalikohou Nelson. Together, they combine reggae with world-pop and R&B influences while keeping their Hawaiian identity at the center of the music.
That collective structure is important to the band’s sound. Seven Suns are not built around a single frontperson accompanied by interchangeable musicians. Vocals, arrangement and instrumental color move throughout the group, allowing the songs to feel polished without losing the interaction of a working live band.
“Alibi” continues a productive period for Seven Suns following two earlier 2026 collaborations. In February, the band released “Cotton Candy” featuring fellow Hawaiian artist Fia. That was followed in May by “Summer Salt,” a collaboration with San Diego reggae mainstays Tribal Seeds.
Those releases have allowed Seven Suns to explore different sides of their identity. “Cotton Candy” emphasized the group’s melodic and romantic instincts, while “Summer Salt” placed them inside a broader West Coast and island-reggae conversation. “Alibi” brings the focus back to the band itself, using an immediately approachable song to reinforce the chemistry between its seven members.
The single follows the group’s debut album, Many Feathers, released in November 2024 through Ineffable Records. The 10-track album included “Stranger,” “Run It Back,” “Be Still Here,” “Let Life,” “One Stone,” “Faded” and the title track, introducing Seven Suns as a band capable of pairing polished reggae production with themes of purpose, love, loss and collective growth.
Many Feathers became a major breakthrough at home. The album earned six N? H?k? Hanohano Awards in 2025, including Reggae Album of the Year. The honors confirmed that Seven Suns were not simply assembling an experienced group of musicians. They were developing a distinct body of work with its own place in Hawai?i’s contemporary music landscape.
The band’s members had already spent years contributing to the foundation of the local scene before forming Seven Suns. Since coming together, they have supported artists including Maoli, The Green, Third World, Allen Stone, Teddy Swims and Durand Jones & The Indications. They have also toured alongside Collie Buddz and Stan Walker and collaborated with artists including Fia, Mike Love, Cas Haley, Mihali and Claire Wright.
“Alibi” arrives as Seven Suns prepare the next stage of their catalog. The band has confirmed plans to release its second full-length album in 2026, placing the new single within a larger period of creative growth.
For a group whose debut centered on unity and shared purpose, the continued momentum feels fitting. Seven Suns are growing through collaboration, but “Alibi” demonstrates that the band’s greatest strength remains the chemistry within the seven-member collective itself.
