Oogee Wawa’s “Give Up The Ganja” Background:

Promoting their new single alongside MC & producer J Randy, The Pier had an opportunity to catch up with Oogee Wawa’s MC Jesse Lee who provides some feedback to the featured track. He explains to The Pier, “We record everything in house, our guitarist JP Aceto engineers and produces all of our stuff and then we come in and nit pick.”

As for the song itself, Jesse continues to explain how they came to work with J Randy on the song:
“Our managers have known Josh (J Randy) for a very long time and invited him out to a show (we were opening for Steel Pulse). Afterwards, we just hit it off and later that week J Randy sent me the instrumental for ‘Give Up The Ganja’ with a message that read ‘Do what you do.’ I really look forward to working with J Randy again in the future, I think our styles mesh well and he is a killer musician with a dope vision.”

To provide some background into the song, Jesse Lee pulls the curtain back a bit as to why “Giving Up The Ganja” is important to him: “‘Give Up The Ganja’ is a relatable topic in today’s age. Too many people are given a hard time for enjoying a little smoke. One of my daughters has Cerebral Palsy and trying to get CBD oil for her seizures in NY is incredibly hard, illegal and expensive, and that is ridiculous! This is by no means an anti-police song, more of a ‘Hey most people smoke weed and don’t cause any problems’ song.”

Check back with The Pier over the coming weeks as we receive more information on Oogee Wawa’s upcoming EP, High N Tight. Oogee Wawa Background:

The Long Island 5-piece is formed by MC Jesse Lee Roenbeck, JP Aceto (guitar/vocals), Chad Chadwick (bass), Nick Loiodice (drums/vocals), and Frank Stark (keyboard/trombone). Oogee Wawa sticks out for their combination of clever rap lyrics with pop-driven hooks and reggae-inspired rhythms. The band has been fine tuning that unique and dynamic blend of reggae, rock, and hip hop since 2008, but have gained serious momentum from their 2015 debut album More Sand Than Money. They’ve collaborated on tracks with fellow East Coast reggae groups Sun-Dried Vibes and TreeHouse!, and performed in support of reggae mainstays like Slightly Stoopid, SOJA, Sublime With Rome, and The Dirty Heads. Oogee Wawa always brings unrivaled energy to the stage whether they are playing at a major festival or at the bar around the corner.

Fresh off a handful of shows in Florida, Oogee Wawa is playing a scattering of shows along the East Coast to finish out the winter. This summer Oogee will join stacked lineups at Reggae Rise Up in St. Petersburg, FL and Surrounded By The Sound Music & Arts Festival in Longcreek, SC.
